I Mastered a Candy Cake

This colorful and fun “Candy-Cake” will be the highlight at your next celebration! I recently made this treat, which features vivid candy adornments for my friend’s birthday party. Bubbling over how pretty and festive the cake was, this sweet was devoured by all the party guests within minutes! You can use whatever candy you like, so think big! You can even make your own candy decorations to make this delight even more original!

Step 1: Prepare three to four eight inch cakes (flavor of your choice).

Step 2: Cool your cakes before frosting them for at least an hour.

Step 3: Place your first cake layer on a ten-inch cardboard round.

Step 4: Option A: Spread your favorite frosting and continue with the rest of the layers without frosting the very top or the sides. Option B: Pipe one colored or flavored frosting in the center of the cake. Then pipe a different color or flavored frosting around it. Continue these steps until you reach the edge of the cake. Tip if you are using a looser filling such as chocolate ganache or lemon curd accompany it with a stiffer filling such as buttercream. You are also going to want to put the buttercream on the perimeter of the cake before adding the looser filling.

Step 5: Freeze the cake for an hour. (This will help the cake firm up.)

Step 6: Frost the outside of the cake with frosting (flavor of your choice).

Step 7: Freeze the cake for 30 minutes. (Really important step, so that the cake is easier to roll in sprinkles.)

Step 8: Cover a sheet pan in any type of sprinkles you like. (I used the standard kind.)

Step 9: Take your cake and roll it in the sprinkles until the whole cake is coated.

Step 10: Take a squeeze bottle filled with chocolate ganache (1 cup heavy cream: 1 cup chocolate chips) and use it to make drips on the cake.

Step 11: Take your remaining ganache and spread it on the cake.

Step 12: Here comes the fun part, choose the candies of your choice and if necessary cut them.

Step 13: Place all the candy you can on the chocolate ganache.

Step 14: Take two big lollipops and stick them in the center of your cake (each in it’s own spot). These will be your cake toppers.

Enjoy!
